Message from the Assistant Principal
The Resilience Project
This week, I had the privilege, along with several of our teaching staff, of attending The Resilience Project Conference at the Melbourne Convention Centre. With keynote speakers Hugh van Cuylenberg and Martin Heppell leading the charge.
Hugh van Cuylenberg, the founder of The Resilience Project and a passionate advocate for mental health, delivered a compelling keynote that resonated deeply with us. His approach, grounded in evidence-based strategies and personal anecdotes, highlighted the importance of gratitude, empathy, and mindfulness in building resilience in everyone, not just our students.
Martin Heppell, a renowned educator and resilience expert, then took the stage with his unique blend of wisdom and wit. His focus was on the role of communities in fostering resilience. Martin has a personal connection with RPS, having completed his very first teaching placement at Richmond Primary many moons ago. Martin’s message was clear: building strong, supportive communities is essential for nurturing individual and collective well-being.
The Resilience Project Conference was fantastic opportunity to reflect on our classroom practices and we left inspired and with a clear focus on what our students need to become healthy, happy and resilient people.
150 Year Anniversary
On Wednesday morning this week, we also had our first planning meeting for our 150th anniversary. We are looking forward to celebrating this significant milestone in our school’s history. Please pop Friday November 29th and Saturday November 30th into your diaries and stay tuned for more information. If you would still like to be involved in the planning of our event, please let Megan or myself know.
Should I stay or should I go?
You might be shocked to know that planning for the 2025 school year is in full swing! To assist us in making sure we are ready for next year, if you or anyone you know hasn’t enrolled or intends on not being a part of our school community in 2025, could you please let us know?
Have a wonderful weekend!

Archibald Portrait Winners
Each year in Visual Arts the 5/6’s choose someone who inspires them to create a portrait, they were given the whole of term two to research, draft and complete this and can use any medium they choose. Congratulations to Estelle B who chose Lisa Lopes, George M who chose Antoni Gaudi, Lotsie P who chose Frida Kahlo and Artem P who chose Travis Scott.
Your focus and hard work resulted in fantastic works of art. Well done!
News from Year 5/6
In Numeracy, we have been looking at fractions during our Number and Algebra Unit and using directional language and coordinates in our Measurement and Geometry unit. In inquiry, our focus is on Australian history, exploring the roles different individuals, groups and events had in shaping the country. In Literacy, we’ve been focussing on analysing and constructing poetry; including odes, limericks and shape poems.
The AFL team were fortunate enough to make it through to the division round of Gala Sports and played 4 fantastic games. Unfortunately, we were unable to secure the win, with the other team kicking a goal with just 2 minutes to go and beating us by 1 point. A huge congratulations goes to the team for their efforts and behaviour with the umpires going out of their way to comment on how excellent our students were.
