NF Day

What a fantastic day we had last Friday for NF Day. It was so great to see everyone dressed resplendent in their blue and green for a much-needed cause. We raised over $350 for the Childhood Tumour Foundation, which is a fantastic result!

News from School Council

 

Our new school council met this week, and we had a highly productive meeting. As part of the meeting, the council approved our amended Dogs in School policy as well as our new Parent Chats Groups Policy and Code of Conduct. Our Parent Chat groups serve as vital communication channels, fostering community engagement and facilitating the exchange of important information among parents.

The full Policy and Code of Conduct is available on our website, but in summary:

**Establishment and Membership:**

At the onset of each school year, our dedicated parent class representatives take the initiative to establish chat groups for each class. Additionally, parents of new prep students have the opportunity to create chat groups during orientation sessions. All parents of students in a particular class are warmly invited to join the corresponding chat group. However, participation remains entirely voluntary, and individuals are free to exit the group at any time.

**What Can You Share?**

The parent chat groups are designed to facilitate communication on matters directly related to Richmond Primary School. This includes, but is not limited to, announcements regarding school events, volunteering opportunities, reminders for upcoming activities, queries about lost items, educational resources, carpooling arrangements, parenting advice, and real-time notifications in case of emergencies.

**What to Avoid Sharing:**

To maintain a positive and focused environment within the chat groups, we kindly request that certain types of information be refrained from sharing. This includes personal contact details, health-related information about students, negative comments or complaints, financial discussions, unverified rumours, explicit content, confidential school information, student photographs or videos, personal commercial promotions, and discussions on political or religious topics.

**Let’s Foster a Supportive Community:**

We encourage all parents to actively participate in the chat groups, fostering a supportive network within our school community. By adhering to these guidelines, we can ensure that our communication channels remain effective, respectful, and conducive to the well-being of all members.

 

 

New Build Progress

 

I know you are all waiting with bated breath for news on our new building project. The architects and VSBA are currently wrapping up the schematic design phase. Once this is completed, we will be able to share further details and information about the plans. So please hold tight…it’s coming!

In Reading and Writing, students have been analysing the persuasive techniques and elements of advertisements, along with writing, recordingand/or filming their own. In Maths, students have been solving multiplication and division open-ended, worded problems, and learning about perimeter and area.

In Inquiry, students have been finding out more about the generation and transmission of electricity, the future of electricity, and the reflection, refraction and absorption of light. Students are now looking into their choice of action based on their interest in each of these topics.

 

STEM Open Morning

 

At Richmond Primary School, every week is Education Week, and we will be celebrating education at RPS next Thursday, May 30th, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

This year’s theme, Spotlight on STEM, highlights the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in our everyday lives, in the classroom, and beyond.

On this day, all parents and carers are welcome to come into the classroom spaces during the first hour of learning and join the children in some activities related to STEM education.

Just a reminder that we have Teeth On Wheels visiting our school for dental check-ups and oral health education starting on the 27/06/2024.

• Maxwell H – You’ve been putting your Max effort into your learning recently and have been making some great learning choices in the classroom which are paying off in your learning. The Heat is On. Well done!
• Archer F – For putting every effort into all his work, especially in his published writing piece detailing the Portugal vs Argentina soccer match showdown. You have smashed it this term Archer, you are a star.

 

Year 5/6

 

• Abbey R – For demonstrating outstanding initiative, kindness, and dedication. Your proactive approach to learning and compassionate attitude positively impacts everyone around you. Keep up the good work Abbey, well done!
• Krystal M – For your persistence and determination in Maths. You have continued to have a go at challenging multiplication problems and have excelled by working through all the steps without giving up. Well, done, Krystal!

Wednesday the 24th of April saw 13 keen trekkers depart their respective states and arrive in PNG, physically, emotionally and mentally ready for the massive task of completing the Kokoda Trail (96k).

In the group we had a few RPS Fathers. In order: Tim Hazell, Craig Sidebottom, Neil Motley and David Tregambe.

Kokoda is a single-file foot thoroughfare that runs one way 96 kilometres, overland through the Owen Stanley Range in Papua New Guinea. The track is the most famous in Papua New Guinea and is known for being the location of the World War II battle between Japanese and Australian forces in 1942.

The track typically starts at the Kokoda station (after a quick 25 min flight straight into Kokoda) and ends at Owers Corner in Central Province, 50 kilometres east of Port Moresby. It reaches a height of 2,190m as it passes around the peak of Mount Bellamy. The RPS parent group started walking on Thursday 25th after an epic Dawn Service, arriving into Owers 7 days later on Monday the 1st of May.
