Message from the Principal
I can’t believe that we have already had 5 weeks at school this term! Our campers have returned, school photos have been taken, excursions have been had, and there has been lots of fun, laughter, and learning over the past few weeks. With 6 weeks to go, the weather is getting colder, days are shorter, and staff and students are fighting off cold and flu bugs and nasties. It’s time to rug up, stay warm and look after ourselves….I think Winter has arrived a bit early this year!
Resilience Project Questions:
We are excited that our partnership with The Resilience Project (TRP) will continue in 2025. This collaboration remains a vital component of our school’s daily routine, emphasising the importance of practising Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness, and Emotional Literacy (GEM+EL) across all age groups.
Recognising that these skills may not come naturally to everyone, we believe that early and consistent practice enhances our ability to develop them effectively.
To support this initiative, we’ve decided to provide families with weekly questions or actions designed to spark meaningful GEM+EL conversations at home. These prompts can be discussed during dinner, in the car, or at any time your family is together.
This week’s question:
“What KIND acts have you witnessed today?”
Engaging in these discussions can help reinforce the values we nurture within our school community.
Additionally, an FAQs for Parents section is available on our website, offering further insights into the program and ways to support your child’s wellbeing journey.
Anyone got cash?
We are committed to transitioning towards a predominantly cashless environment at RPS. This decision is driven by two primary considerations:
- Compliance with Departmental Guidelines: The Department of Education has established stringent protocols for managing cash on school premises. Adhering to these guidelines necessitates comprehensive administrative procedures to ensure the security and accountability of cash transactions. Education Victoria
- Enhanced Convenience and Efficiency: Eliminating the need for physical cash simplifies the payment process for families, removing the hassle of sourcing exact change for school-related expenses. Additionally, it streamlines administrative tasks for our office staff, allowing them to allocate more time to supporting students and educational activities.
By adopting cashless payment systems, we aim to create a more secure, efficient, and user-friendly financial environment for our school community.
NF Day 2025:
Next Friday (May 30th), we will be celebrating Neurofibromatosis (NF) Awareness Day, aligning with the Children’s Tumour Foundation’s (CTF) national campaign during NF Awareness Month.
How You Can Participate:
- 💚 Wear Blue and Green 💙
Show your support by wearing blue and green on May 30. These colours represent NF awareness and help bring visibility to the condition. - 🎁 Make a Donation 🎁
If you’re able, please consider donating to the Children’s Tumour Foundation through our school’s fundraiser: https://www.trybooking.com/au/donate/rpsnfday. Your contribution supports vital research and services for those affected by NF. - 🎗️Wear an NF Awareness Ribbon 🎗️
NF awareness ribbons are available for purchase at the school office or directly from the Children’s Tumour Foundation: https://www.ctf.org.au/store.
Your involvement will help raise awareness and contribute to ongoing research efforts aimed at finding a cure for NF.

2026 Enrolments
Can you believe we are already planning for the 2026 school year? Our Year 6 School Captains and Vice-Captains have been exemplary in conducting regular school tours, consistently receiving commendations for their professionalism and evident pride in our school community.
Richmond Primary School continues to be a preferred choice for families within our local area and the broader community. To facilitate effective planning for the upcoming year, we kindly request that families intending to enrol a child for Foundation (Prep) in 2026 submit their enrolment applications promptly.
Enrolment forms can be obtained from the school office by contacting Jake or downloaded directly from our Enrolments page.
That’s all from me this week
I look forward to seeing you around the school grounds. Until then….
Be safe. Be healthy. Be happy. Be kind to yourself and others.

Ice Bucket Challenge
Hey RPS friends!
Guess what? We (Emily, Maddie, Sadie, Camille, and Samika) are doing the ICE BUCKET Challenge on Friday, June 13th! It’s going to be super chilly but super fun!
We’re doing this to help people learning about MND, which is a serious illness. It’s kind of like the BIG FREEZE thing you might have heard about.
We’re also raising money to help out. There will be a link on Compass soon where you can donate. If you’re in Years 3 to 6 and want to join in, you can put your name in a raffle. If your name gets picked, you’ll get a bucket of ice water poured on you! And guess what? If you donate, you might get chosen to pour the ice water on someone else! We’re picking 4 students and 4 staff members to get soaked. So, don’t miss the assembly on June 13th. It’s going to be a blast!
Parents Battle of the Bands
RPS is participating in the Parents Battle of the Bands for the first time this year. PBOB is a Melbourne-wide competition between bands made up of the parents of local primary schools. It is a great way of raising funds to help support our school. Funds raised through ticket sales come directly back to RPS to support our performing arts program.
Our RPS band – Rage Against the Canteen – will be playing a 15 minute gig at the Croxton Bandroom in Thornbury on Thursday 19 June at 7.00pm.
It is an 18+ venue so not one for the students
Tickets and info now available through the PBOB website (https://parentsbattleofthebands.com/) or scan the QR code on the poster in the office.
Select ‘Northside Battle 1’ and make sure you select the tickets that apply to ‘Richmond PS – Rage Against the Canteen’ so that our school gets the benefit of the ticket sales.
Look forward to seeing you all there!!
