Message from the Leading Teacher
We’re excited about the term ahead, which promises many memorable events. Some highlights include the Young Author’s Award, the Whole School Colour Run, House Sports Day, and Grade 6 Graduation. Stay tuned for more details on these exciting activities in the coming weeks.
On another exciting note, the new playground in the fairy garden at the front of the school is almost ready to open! We can’t wait for the children to enjoy this wonderful new space very soon.
As summer approaches, please remember that students are required to wear their school hats during all outdoor play. If a student does not have a hat, they will need to stay in the undercover areas to stay protected.
I am stepping in for Russell as Assistant Principal for just over a week while he’s away on a very special occasion—getting married! We wish Russell and his soon-to-be wife, Michelle, all the very best on their big day.
Thanks,
Hayley
RPS Fundraising Update
The dust has finally settled on 2025’s night of nights, the RPS Parents’ Night Out. The Fundraising Committee is delighted to announce that we raised $12,729.69, which will go towards the exciting planned upgrades to our beloved Nick’s Garden.
We’d like to thank everyone who helped pull the event together, those who came along on the night and generously bid for prizes, those who purchased raffle tickets, Rage Against the Canteen for their incredible performance, and to James Carson for stepping in as MC extraordinaire.
Special thanks to the Richmond Union Bowling Club and to the other local businesses (listed below) that generously donated to our fundraising efforts. Please continue to support these businesses and let them know how much we value their ongoing involvement.
Term 3 also saw the Fathers and Friends BBQ Breakfast, which was a highlight for the kids – and hopefully their dads or friends! Thanks to everyone who donated eggs for the day and to Bakers Delight Hawskburn and J&M Poultry at Gleadell Street Market for ensuring we had the best egg, bacon and sausage rolls in 3121.
As Term 4 gets underway, keep your eye out for information about the annual Colour Run – our final fundraiser for 2025.
With a new school year on the horizon, please consider getting involved in our fundraising organisation. Public schools face significant shortfalls in government funding and the finds raised by school communities often cover gaps that can be the difference in class sizes and the quality of academic, social and emotional support offered.
From your Fundraising Committee:
Eleanor Thomas, Dayna Maplestone, Kath Carson, Emma Bullen, Elizsabeth Smith, Emma Berry, Sarah Foropoulos, Kristen Sidebottom, Kat McCure, Chrissy Chow

Young Author's Award
We are excited to announce the upcoming Young Author’s Award at RPS! This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their creativity and storytelling skills through narrative writing.
What is the Young Author’s Award?
Students who choose to participate will write a narrative, typically no longer than two pages. They may work on their writing piece at home, or during Writer’s Workshop at school. We always welcome creativity when it comes to presenting their writing.
The students’ teachers will then select outstanding entries from each year level, resulting in shortlisted stories to be reviewed. From these, a final winner will be chosen for each year level, making seven winners in total.
The shortlisted stories will be reviewed by our special guest judge, Alice Foulcher. We feel very fortunate to have Alice’s expertise and enthusiasm guiding the selection of the winning pieces!
Important Dates:
- Thursday, 6th November (Week 5): Narratives are due. Students will hand their published piece to their classroom teacher.
- Friday, 14th November (Week 6): The winners will be announced and awards presented during our whole-school assembly.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with your child’s teacher.
We are very proud to celebrate our young authors and look forward to seeing their wonderful work!
