Message from the Assistant Principal
Welcome back to Term 2!
And what a start it has been!
As you would no doubt be aware, we started our term with an unexpected water feature in our yard! Thankfully, we have been able to stem the water flow and we are currently waiting for the VSBA (Victorian Schools Building Authority) to approve the repair works, as it will require some concrete cutting and underground works. Fingers crossed this will happen soon!
There is a running joke in teaching that “Term 2 is the quiet term.” This is never the case. We have another jam-packed term ahead of us. Here are just some of the important dates this term:
- ANZAC Day – Thursday 25th of April
- Student Free Day – Friday 26th of April
- RPS Cross Country – Friday 3rd of May
- School Photos – Tuesday 7th to Friday 10th May
- Whole School Cross Country – Friday 3rd of May
- District Cross Country – Friday 10th of May
- NF Day – Friday 17th of May
- Student Free Day – Thursday 23rd of May
- King’s Birthday Public Holiday – Monday 10th of June
- RPS Arts Gala – Thursday 20th of June
I would like to also extend a welcome to two of our new educational support workers that have started with us this term – Nicole and Olivia. They will be helping out in classes and with students across the school. Please say hello if you see them around.
RPS 150th Year Anniversary
This year, as it turns out, Richmond Primary (formerly known as Brighton Street Primary) is celebrating it’s 150th year of education! This is a wonderful opportunity to look back on our history and all the fabulous achievements we have made while also looking towards the next 150 years. While the official date of anniversary is very soon (May 4th), we will look to celebrate this occasion in Term 4 this year. If you are interested in being involved in this celebration, please let Megan or myself know!
Social Media
As we are all well aware, social media can be a fickle and toxic place. We only just have to look at recent news events to see the impact it can have on both young people and adults alike.
Regrettably, I was disheartened to learn that some individuals within our community chose to express negative sentiments and target others via social media platforms recently. At our school, we place great emphasis on teaching our students the importance of respectful and responsible online behaviour.
As a school community, it is incumbent upon us to:
- Exemplify positive conduct for our students and broader community.
- Treat every member of our community with dignity and respect.
- Collaborate to achieve optimal outcomes for our students.
- Foster a secure and supportive learning environment.
- Engage in constructive dialogue with the school and utilise appropriate channels when addressing concerns.
While challenges may arise, it is imperative that we work together to support one another and navigate through them, always prioritizing the wellbeing of our students, our most precious assets, our students.
Have a great long weekend!
Russell
