RPS Chatter March (2) 2024

And just like that….this is our final Chatter for Term 1!  It only seems like yesterday that we were greeting the new Foundation students, setting up our new classroom routines and talking about our summer holidays…. that is now all a distant memory.  Where did the term go?

I’m wondering how many of you have had a close look at our school logo?  If I’m being completely honest, I know what it looks like…but I haven’t studied it in detail.  It’s been brough to my attention earlier this week that our school logo states that the site our school is located on was established in 1874.  That means we are turning 150 years old this year!

We will be hosting a week of celebrations in Term 4 and are wanting to establish a working party of community members to assist us in making this a celebration to remember!  If you are interested in helping us out, please email directly at school (megan.dell@education.vic.gov.au).  We will have our first meeting at the beginning of Term 2.

While I have your attention, there has been no need for us to conduct an election for our 2024 School Council.  I would like to take this moment to congratulation Eleanor Thomas who will be extending her time on council, and welcome Helen Haines to the 2024 RPA School Council.  Thank you to our outgoing member, Nick Corker, for his time and contribution to our School Council since before I joined the community in 2020.  Your time and efforts have been greatly appreciated.  Our first meeting of the 2024 School council will take place on Tuesday, 16th April (more details will be distributed to council members next week).

As our school holidays rapidly approach…. Please remember that it is the responsibility of everyone to ensure that our school is looked after over the holiday period.  It’s great to see people using the school facilities by making use of the basketball courts and playgrounds.  We have a wonderful community resource, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that our grounds are used appropriately.  If you are at the school with your children over the holidays and you witness others not respecting our yard, please notify the police immediately.

Take some time to relax and recharge the batteries over the Easter Break and I hope you get some time to spend with those you care about the most over the school holidays.

Looking forward to seeing you all back here to begin Term 2 on Monday April 15th.

Our school celebrated Harmony day today, which was the conclusion of Harmony Week.

Students came to school either dressed in organge or in a way that celebrated their heritage of culture.

Helpers Required

 

The year of Halloween Fest is upon us – October 26th, 12pm – 7pm – this is an amazing staple in the social fold of RPS and much loved by the kids and the community. Anyone that has been to this event before know that it is quite a bit of work to pull together but because of Halloween Fests founder Ellie, the job is amazingly streamlined.

We need a group of people to each take control of a certain area of Halloween Fest. These areas are listed below – if you are going to help out with one event at school this year, let it be this one – I promise you, it is a LOT of fun. The best things is almost all props are already stored in the shed and just need to be dusted off!

We try to get everyone together at least once to discuss ideas etc, so it’s also a great way to meet other parents.

Signage and Design

Graphic designer alert – we need someone with some creative flare to design all the posters, social posts and general signage for the day – this will be on a big billboard out the front of school, so if you would like that chuffed feeling of walking past your billboard everyday during school drop off and pickup – this one is for you!

 

Vampire Bites

Are food carts your calling? How about booking a variety of different food options for the fair – bonus points if you can get them all on theme

 

Pumpkin Patch (stall)

Carve a pumpkin and submit it to be shown in the RPS Pumpkin Patch for judging.

 

Líl Shop of Horrors (stall)

Collect a series of spooky crafts to sell at the RPS Witch Craft stall

 

Photo BOO-th (stall)

Organise the Photo Boo-th for the event, complete with props for silly pics on the day

 

Raffle To Die For

Arrange the prizes for the biggest raffle of the RPS year. Last Halloween Fest we raffled off $2000 worth of vouchers to local Richmond restaurants – yum!

 

Witch Craft (stall)

Put those slime making skills to good use and help the kids craft some gooey things to take home

 

Zombie Smash Basketball (stall)

Smash a zombie head through the ring to save the world! Strive to lead the world as the greatest zombie slayer of all time!

 

 Dunk Tank (stall)

Send captives (probably Russell and Josh!)  into a watery grave if you successfully hit the target.

 

 Bog Lob (stall)

Come and get your gross out on at the disgusting Bog Lob where you win by getting three full nappies into the bog!

 

 Choc Toss (stall)

Are you a greedy little so and so? Come and try your luck at the chocolate toss – do you go for the close easy option or do you test your skill and try to land a monster?

 

 Tombola Lucky Jars (stall)

An abundance of mystery and temptation – which jar will you receive? A display of mysterious and enticing looking tombola jars filled with a range of treats and delights displayed in a wizards library of ingredients.  Pick a number – which jar will you receive?

 

Touchy Feely (stall)

A darkened room beckons our victims who are invited in at their own risk! Buckets of disgusting ingredients await those that are brave enough to touch. Eyeballs, brains, worms… can you guess what you are feeling?

 

 Halloween Toss (stall)

A game of skill where the victim tosses an object at a target. If successful the spell is released and they are rewarded.

 

Witches Cauldron (stall)

A massive witches cauldron bubbles away and is mysteriously green in colour. The evil witches watches over her brew which contains some ingredients that look suspiciously like body parts. If brave enough, victims are invited to put their hand into the pot and pull out a numbered eyeball with the possibility of a prize ‘

 

Haunted Garden (Nicks Garden)

A twist on the traditional Haunted House. Nick’s Garden is the perfect place to hold a ‘Haunted Garden’

 

Curl Up & Dye Salon (stall)

Halloween theme face painting and nails

 

Ticketing

Set up the ticketing platform and wristbands for the event

 

Boos & Brews (stall)

What better way to spend Halloween Fest than setting up the bar?

 

Whinebarrow

Organise a wheelbarrow full of wine for one lucky winner to wheel out at the end of the event

 

Spooktacular Arena

It’s basically like organising the Coachella of RPS – organise the DJs, bands and music for the day

RPS Spooky themed cake and bake stall

 

Prize Captain

Organise the prizes for the various stalls to ensure there is no overlap

 

Spooky Snax and Drinx (stall)

Arrange the soft drinks and juices, alongside some popcorn and fairy floss.

 

Ride Master

Pick, book and arrange the rides for the day

 

Licence King/Queen

Arrange any licences or permissions required for the day (usually just a few emails to council etc)

 

Agenda Ghoul

Set the agenda for the day – inc judging of any competitions, drawing of raffles etc.

 

On Tuesday the 12th Match, the Year 6 Leaders went to the State Youth Leadership Conference also known as the Dream and Lead Conference, at the convention centre in the city. The hosts were the CEO Wil Masssara, Bonnie Ryan-Rowe and Amanda Marshall. There were also two special speakers Trent Dennis-Lane (Former AFL Player) and Skye. We learnt about how to be a good leader by setting goals, being authentic to yourself, taking the chance and resilience. It was a really great experience and we learnt a lot.
