RPS Chatter August 2026

We have just approached the halfway point of Term 3, and our wonderful Foundation students last week celebrated their 100 Days of School! A massive congratulations to all our Foundies, who are now 100 days older and wiser! Their creative costumes certainly had me fooled- for a moment, I thought the Foundation classroom had been transformed into a retirement village!

Over the next five weeks, we have many exciting events coming up, including:

• 3/4 Camp to Anglesea
• Student-Led Conferences
• Book Week Dress-Up Celebration
• 1/2 Excursion to Como House
• Our Whole School Production
• Pizza Day

Yesterday, while our students were enjoying a day off school, our entire school staff were busy working alongside our RPS Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader, Camilla. We spent the day learning more about student behaviour, exploring ways we can best support our students, and developing strategies to create inclusive classrooms where all students can feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

It was a valuable opportunity for our staff to come together, reflect on our practice and continue building our knowledge and understanding to better support the wonderful students in our school community.

A massive thank-you to the incredible team at Smokey Chooks on Bridge Road for feeding the staff at lunch, it was delicious!

In Week 6 & 7 we will be conducting student led conferences. These will be on Wednesday 19th August for Foundation – Grade 2 and Grade 5/6 and on Wednesday August 26th for Grade 3/4 and Specialists. Both afternoons will run from 12:00pm – 5:30pm. Conferences will be 12 minutes in duration. All conferences will be at school in your child’s learning space.

Student led conferences provide a forum to develop a student agency for students, parents and teachers to acknowledge student progress and achievement.  Developing student agency is an important goal for our students and one that we highly value in their development as a learner. Student-led conferences are a valuable avenue for involving families and students in the learning process and helping families understand the teaching, learning, assessment and reporting process. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the student’s achievements.

Professor Hattie, the Director of the Melbourne Education Research Institute, University of Melbourne identifies “student self-reporting as the most significant indicator linked to raised student achievement.” At Richmond Primary, we also know that it encourages students to reflect on their learning and promotes the articulation of student thinking.

Student-led conferences are an opportunity to strengthen communication channels with parents about student’s learning and progress. It critically involves students in self-assessment and allows them to take responsibility for their own learning as they work toward and achieve curriculum outcomes. Students take responsibility for leading the conference and will discuss and reflect on the samples of work they have chosen including what they have learned, how they learn and how they are progressing. Students will identify strengths and areas for improvement. During the process parents and the teacher are encouraged to ask questions, provide feedback and encourage the student and to share their thoughts and ideas on what is being presented.

Students’ teachers and families will also discuss future learning goals and next steps to improve learning. We therefore ask all students to be in attendance for this conference.If the teacher, or parent, wishes to discuss an issue without the student being present then we ask that another appointment be made on an alternative day.

Our wonderful school production ‘Unless’ adapted and directed by Kath Faichney, stars an incredible ensemble of Year 6 actors in named character roles and unmissable singing and dancing performances from EVERY class! What a spectacle!

Last Wednesday, our wonderful Foundation students reached a very special milestone — 100 Days of School! 🎉

The Foundation classrooms were filled with excitement as our students celebrated 100 days of learning, playing, growing and making memories together. To mark the occasion, the students dressed up as 100 year olds, and we were certainly impressed by the creativity! From walking sticks and glasses to grey hair and cosy cardigans, our Foundation classrooms looked more like a retirement village than a classroom!

A huge congratulations to all of our Foundation students on reaching this incredible milestone. We are so proud of how much they have already learned and grown throughout their first 100 days of school. We can’t wait to see what the next 100 days bring! 💯🎓

📚🎶 Book Week is coming to Richmond Primary School! 🎶📚

This year’s theme, “A Symphony of Stories,” invites us to celebrate the magic, imagination and joy of books. Join us on Tuesday 25 August 2026 for our Book Character Dress-Up Day, where students are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book character!

Our whole school will come together on the basketball courts at 9:10am to parade our wonderful book character costumes and celebrate our love of reading.

We can’t wait to see Richmond Primary School transformed into a wonderful world of stories, characters and imagination! 📖✨
