Message from the Leading Teacher
Hi RPS Community,
As this is the final Chatter for Term 2, it is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the many highlights and achievements of the term. Some of the standout events have included the opening of our new school building, the School Cross Country, the success of NF Day, the Year 5/6 Camp to Forest Edge, the Year 1/2 excursion to Scienceworks, the Year 3/4 excursion to the Royal Botanic Gardens, and the Foundation Science Incursion.
As the term draws to a close, we also need to say a fond farewell to two of our outstanding Education Support (ES) staff members. Megs and Anna have both made significant contributions to our school community over the past few years and will be greatly missed. Megs is relocating to Geelong, while Anna is about to finish her teacher training and will be moving into teaching roles from next term. We thank them both for their dedication, care and commitment to the students and families of RPS, and wish them every success in their future endeavours.
Term 2 will conclude on Friday 26 June, with students finishing at 2:00pm. Please note this early dismissal time. Our final assembly for the term will be held that morning at 9:10am.
Looking ahead to Term 3, we have many exciting events to look forward to, including:
- Year 3/4 Camp
- Somer’s Camp
- Whole School Production
- Book Week
- Student-Led Conferences
Thank you to everyone in our community for your ongoing support throughout the term. We wish all students, families and staff a safe, restful and enjoyable winter break.
Hayley
Key Dates
We have some key dates for Term 3 you might like to add into your diaries now! Please see the table below.
Term 2 School Reports
As you may have already heard through the media, we are writing to confirm that written student reports will not be provided this semester due to industrial action being undertaken by the Australian Education Union (AEU) in Victoria. As part of the current industrial action, participating teachers have withdrawn from a range of administrative duties, including the preparation and completion of written semester reports. This action is occurring across many Victorian government schools and is directed at matters relating to teachers’ working conditions and workload.
Reports will still provide important information about your child’s learning attainment; however, full descriptive comments will not be included. It is important to note that the industrial action does not affect the entry of numerical or letter grades and the Victorian Curriculum achievement levels, therefore progression points will still make up part of the report.
Please be assured that our commitment to your child’s learning and wellbeing remains unchanged. Teachers continue to plan and deliver high-quality teaching and learning programs, assess student progress, and provide regular feedback to students throughout the school year.
We acknowledge that this situation may be disappointing for some families and appreciate your understanding. The industrial action reflects broader concerns within the profession regarding workload and the sustainability of teaching, and we respect the right of staff to participate in lawful industrial action.
Should you have any questions regarding your child’s progress, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Semester 2 reports will be distributed as usual on Thursday 25 June via Compass.
Assembly Term 3
We would love the community’s feedback about when assembly should be in Term 3, on Friday mornings or Friday afternoons. If you haven’t yet, can you please vote for your preference at the following link: Assembly Survey Link
Production
We are incredibly excited about our 2026 whole-school production of Unless!
Synopsis: As Mrs Horton begins reading Dr Seuss’ The Lorax to her Year 1/2 students, as part of their unit on environmental studies, something magical happens, the story bursts to life before the class’s eyes! The students are swept into the colourful world of Truffula trees, Swomee-Swans, and Brown Bar-ba-loots, where they witness the Once-ler’s greedy destruction of nature, first-hand. Guided by the wise Lorax, they discover the true cost of deforestation and the importance of protecting our planet. While reflecting on the dances and songs the class share with the creatures in this special world, the students realise that caring for the environment is everyone’s responsibility, because, as the Lorax reminds us – “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
The production will take place at MGC on Tuesday 1st September and Wednesday 2nd September. More information about specific timing, ticketing and costuming for our production, Unless, will be sent out shortly.
Rehearsals are in full swing as students memorise lines, choreograph dances and learn lyrics, and we are already hard at work building the set and creating props. We can’t wait to share this special production with you all!
Working Bee Update - Sunday 14th June
A heartfelt thank you to all the families, students and staff who joined us for our Working Bee on 14 June. Thanks to the enthusiasm, teamwork and hard work of our volunteers, we achieved an incredible amount in just a few hours. Together, we:
- Planted more than 50 Australian native plants
- Added 8 new trees to our grounds
- Established a selection of herbs and pumpkins in the garden
- Mulched the entirety of Nick’s Garden, helping to improve soil health and retain moisture for our plants
- Enhanced our outdoor spaces, creating a greener and more vibrant environment for our children
The Working Bee was about much more than gardening. It was wonderful to see families working alongside one another, sharing skills, building connections and strengthening the strong sense of community that makes our school such a special place. We sincerely thank everyone who generously gave up part of their weekend to contribute. Your support, energy and commitment have made a lasting difference to our school environment, and the benefits of your efforts will be enjoyed by students for years to come.
We look forward to watching the garden grow and flourish and to continuing to work together to create beautiful spaces for our children to learn, play and thrive.
Pizza Day
Last Friday 19th June it was our Term 2 Pizza Day. Another fantastic Pizza Day thanks to our wonderful Year 6’s and Sarah Devine and Liam for supporting and also for Royal Saxon for supplying us with the pizza bases.
Foundation Inquiry Expo - Take A Seat
This term in Foundation, the Inquiry Unit has been ‘Design and Innovation’. As part of this unit, the students have been learning about different materials and exploring their properties. For their final action project, the students designed and created a chair for one of their favourite toys! Thank you to all friends and family for coming to support the Foundation students and their incredible designs.
