Message from the Principal
I can’t believe that we have already had 5 weeks at school this term! Our campers have returned, school photos have been taken, excursions have been had, and there has been lots of fun, laughter, and learning over the past few weeks. With 5 weeks to go, the weather is getting colder, days are shorter, and staff and students are fighting off cold and flu bugs and nasties. It’s time to rug up, stay warm and look after ourselves….winter is coming!
As I write this newsletter, our Year 5/6 students and staff have returned from camp exhausted, dirty, slightly sleep-deprived, but absolutely buzzing from an incredible few days away together. Camps provide such valuable opportunities for students to challenge themselves, build friendships, develop independence and create memories that last well beyond primary school. A huge thank you to our staff for the energy, care and enthusiasm they brought to the experience, and to our families for supporting the adventure. By all accounts, lots of fun was had by everyone involved!
Thank you also to everyone who supported our NF Day fundraiser last week. The generosity of our community continues to amaze us. We are still waiting on the final figure, but we are incredibly proud to be contributing towards awareness and research for such an important cause.
With the colder weather and wetter roads now well and truly here, I ask everyone to please take extra care around the school and surrounding streets. We are noticing some vehicles barely coming to a complete stop before children are exiting cars, and we are also seeing students riding around the neighbourhood without always paying close attention to traffic and road safety. A few extra seconds of caution can make a significant difference in keeping everyone safe.
A reminder that this coming Monday (May 25th) is a student-free day, so students are not required to attend school. Staff will be spending the day continuing our professional learning with Dr Ryan Dunn, with a strong focus on strengthening mathematics instruction across the school. We are excited to continue refining our teaching practices to support the best outcomes for all students.
Now that our whole school assemblies have moved indoors, we will be trialling the current format throughout Term 2 before seeking feedback from students, staff and families. In a few weeks, we will send out a community survey to help determine whether morning or afternoon assemblies are preferred moving forward.
Can you believe we are already planning for the 2027 school year? Our Year 6 School Captains and Vice-Captains have been exemplary in conducting regular school tours, consistently receiving commendations for their professionalism and evident pride in our school community.
Richmond Primary School continues to be a preferred choice for families within our local area and the broader community. To facilitate effective planning for the upcoming year, we kindly request that families intending to enrol a child for Foundation (Prep) in 2027 submit their enrolment applications promptly. Enrolment forms can be obtained from the school office or downloaded directly from our Enrolments page.
Finally, it was wonderful to see so many families and community members attend our Education Week Open Morning today, and many of us certainly made the most of the coffee cart! We genuinely value opportunities to open our doors and showcase the learning taking place across the school. Schools today look very different from when many of us attended, and it is always positive when our community can experience firsthand the engaging, collaborative and vibrant learning environments our students are part of each day.
That’s all from me this week
I look forward to seeing you around the school grounds. Until then….
Be safe. Be healthy. Be happy. Be kind to yourself and others.
